The Abruzzo region which is still considered minor Italy offers a very nice mixture of sea side and the highest Appennine mountains. “Little Tibet”, the huge plain below the Gran Sass, is perfect for a fabulous bike tour. You have to expect bucolic scenes with sheperds that move along slowly with happy cows, sheep and goats. Visit the fortress of Calascio, setting of “Ladyhawke” and “The name of the rose”. And enjoy the silence and the incredible view of the surrounding mountains. Of course there is more to see. Rolling hills and small villages like Campli, Civitella and Ascoli Piceno which are considered among the nicest in Italy. And last but not least we pedal along the seaside. The Adriatic coast offers some surprises. Regional protected areas and the famous trabocchi- squidlike fishing constructions- reaching out into the sea.
